If i would buy a new one, can i just connect it and then clone the info from my current one to the new one and then just switch places on the ssds?

Thank You!

M.2 ssd are usually very reliable.  Overheating might be the problem.  What is the symptom?

If you go here and scroll down to firmware there are update for Western Digital and Seagate SSD drives.

possibly a firmware update will help.

Try running the free tool Hard Disk Sentinel.  It can tell you exactly what is wrong with the SSD.

Your M.2 can be cloned to another M.2 or you can run the windows backup to any mechanical 2tb or larger disk drive

When I look up what I believe to be the sympton on my ssd it only says that the reliability is deterioating and im not sure what that means, it also tells me to make a safe copy of my data in case of malfunction with the unit.

when I run the hard disk sentinel, it tells me this.

The following error(s) detected:
Reliability has been degraded due to significant media related errors or any internal error.
The health is determined by SSD specific S.M.A.R.T. attribute(s): Available Spare (Percent), Percentage Used
The TRIM feature of the SSD is supported and enabled for optimal performance.

This is not good, you need to make a backup and then replace the drive.

----If not under warranty then the following is required -----

There is a possibility the drive cannot be cloned but you should try it.

First see if cloud recovery is available.

HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

Alternately, download from the MS windows store

To clone the drive you should try to obtain a similar model m.2

You can find the model of your m.2 using the wmic command

Using the windows command prompt, please run the following command and report back what it reveals if you want help.

wmic diskdrive get model, size, mediaType, status

for example

If you have powershell then run it from the administrators command prompt to get better information:

 powershell Get-PhysicalDisk

You will need a USB to m.2 adapter

If you get a SanDisk or Western Digital NVME then you can download their cloning software which is Acronis licensed. Possibly other vendors have or can recommend free cloning software. I use Acronis.

You will need an NVME adapter like this so you can clone your old NVME to the new one. Be sure to hold on to the old NVME for a few weeks in case the new one fails.

Make sure is it "M+B"
