i unplugged my pc and monitor to clean my desk off, but when i plugged everything back in, my pc turns on but sends no signal to my monitor, and my headphone light doesn’t turn on, which normally turns on when my pc is working fine. the same thing goes for my keyboard, the lights normally come on when my pc is working, but nothing turns back on. the light says it’s on, but none of my devices and monitor will work how they normally do when it works fine. i think it might be the extension cord. please help.

Hi @Vancidee,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Meanwhile, you can try these steps.

1. Check Power Source

Disconnect your PC and monitor from the extension cord and plug them directly into a wall outlet.

Ensure the outlet is working by testing another device (like a lamp or phone charger).

2. Verify Power to Components

Make sure the PC power supply switch (at the back, if present) is turned on.

Check that power cables are firmly connected to the PC, monitor, and peripherals.

3. Reset the PC

Unplug the PC from the wall.

Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.

Plug it back in and try powering on.

4. Check Monitor & Cables

Confirm the monitor is powered on and set to the correct input/source (HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI).

Try using a different cable or connecting the monitor to another device to confirm it works.

5. Remove External Devices

Disconnect all USB devices (keyboard, mouse, headphones, external drives).

Sometimes a faulty peripheral can prevent the PC from completing startup.

6. Listen & Observe

Listen for fans spinning, beeps, or hard drive activity.

If the PC powers on but there are no lights or sounds, it could indicate power supply or motherboard issues.

7. Test Without Extension Cord

Since you suspect the extension cord, test all components plugged directly into the wall.

Some extension cords may not provide enough power for all devices.

I hope this helps.
