Hi PC_TECH62

I just ran into that thread a couple of days ago. The success stories are growing in the thread.

I did not connect the dots with this thread. ☹️

Good call!

Bill_To or PC_Tech62  Could either of you please either copy or send me the link to the exact procedure being used?  PC_Tech62, I followed your link but keep getting buried in the very long 6 page thread and it's not clear what procedure they are using.

Hi Pcgraphix

It's a long thread. There really is no step by step procedure in the thread. Most people in the thread are IT Pros. There are continuity gaps, you have to read between the lines.

Reprogram the BIO using Aptio V AMI Firmware Update Utility https://www.ami.com/bios-uefi-utilities/ This utility is portable and was used on a Hiren boot USB stick https://www.hirensbootcd.org/ .

I suggested, with no traction, using a BIOS serial programmer https://www.amazon.com/SETCTOP-RT809F-programmer-Adapters-adapter/dp/B01HZO1YYY to restore the previous BIOS file. The BIOS chip has to be soldered to the MB to get this done. Have never seen the MBs in question. Don't know how HP installed this chip. HP may have embedded the chip in the PCB substrate.

Second, the HP BIOS .BIN and .SIG files reside in the EFI System partition. Now one must either edit the EFI System partition so the BIOS update does not install again or wipe the system drive.

The thread suggests using Linux USB boot media to access the EFI partition outside of Windows to remove those files or do a clean Windows install. I think restoring a pristine system image would also work. Someone also used Powershell within Windows to edit the EFI partition.

This means using the AMI software and Hiren software or Powerpoint commands, and knowing where to look for the .BIN /.SIG files in the EFI System partition. I think someone in the thread referred to the location of those files, can't remember.

That is all I can tell you.

Bill_To, thank you so much!!  As you put it, "There are continuity gaps, you have to read between the lines" is exactly what threw me off.  Your summary confirms the gist of what I thought was the solution!   I already have a Hiren bootable flash drive and the system drive has already been wiped clean.  Just need to reprogram the BIOS using Aptio V AMI Firmware Update Utility!!  Hope to give it a try today and will report back to share my experience with the rest of the community!
