Hi @squidy2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Having low FPS (frames per second) on your Victus HP laptop can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try and improve the situation.
- Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can severely impact gaming performance. Visit the HP website or use HP Support Assistant to ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your GPU.
- Check Power Settings: Sometimes laptops are set to power-saving modes by default, which can limit performance. Make sure your laptop is set to High Performance mode in the power settings.
- Adjust In-Game Settings: Lowering the graphics settings in your games can significantly improve FPS. Try reducing the resolution, texture quality, shadows, and other graphical effects until you achieve smoother gameplay.
- Close Background Applications: Other programs running in the background can consume CPU and RAM, affecting gaming performance. Close unnecessary applications and processes before launching your game.
- Update Windows: Ensure that your operating system is up to date. Sometimes Windows updates include performance improvements and bug fixes that can help with FPS issues.
- Monitor Temperatures: Overheating can cause throttling, which reduces performance to prevent damage. Use software like HWMonitor to check your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. If temperatures are high, consider improving ventilation or using a cooling pad.
- Check for Malware: Sometimes malware or viruses can hog system resources, impacting gaming performance. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule out this possibility.
- BIOS Update: Updating your laptop's BIOS to the latest version can sometimes improve system stability and performance.
- Graphics Settings in Windows: Right-click on your desktop, go to NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings (depending on your GPU), and adjust the 3D settings for better performance.
- Hardware Limitations: Finally, it's important to note that some games may simply be too demanding for your laptop's hardware. Ensure that your expectations for FPS are realistic based on your laptop's specifications and the games you are trying to play.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
