Have an Omen model 15-dc1036nq. Entering on the unexpected standby happens with external power connected.

Your OMEN 15-dc1036nq entering unexpected standby even when plugged in usually points to a power management or thermal control issue, sometimes triggered by Windows updates or OMEN Command Center settings. Here’s how to troubleshoot:
1. Check Windows Power Settings
- Go to Settings → System → Power & Sleep → Additional Power Settings.
- Ensure:
- Plugged in → Sleep = Never.
- Disable Hybrid Sleep under Advanced Power Settings.
2. OMEN Command Center Settings
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub (formerly Command Center).
- Check Performance Control and Thermal Settings.
- If Dynamic Power or Sleep Timer is enabled, turn it off.
3. BIOS & Drivers Update
- Update BIOS and chipset drivers from HP: 👉 Official HP® Support
- An outdated BIOS can mismanage AC power detection.
4. Disable Modern Standby
- Some OMEN models use Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle), which can cause random sleep.
- Check with: powercfg /a
- If Modern Standby is active, you can switch to Hibernate or Sleep only (I can give exact steps if you want).
5. Thermal or Battery Trigger
- If the system overheats or the battery reports abnormal values, Windows may force standby.
- Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2 at boot) → Battery & Thermal tests.
6. Event Viewer Check

- Look for Kernel-Power or Sleep Transition events to confirm the trigger.
