hi, I purchased a new keyboard from HP.. I ordered the correct keyboard and the cost was about $381.  I got it delivered today. I have the order information. I rather not post it here. But I installed everything everything is running fine Windows is running fine and I am shocked to notice that my spacebar does not work on this keyboard!  I was quite meticulous with installation..  verified everything it took me several hours to put everything back together again. Please advise as to how should I approach this...

@Johna2112,

I recommend you test the computer with an external keyboard and check whether the spacebar is working.

Also, uninstall the keyboard driver from the device manager and then restart the computer and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Cheers!

hi, thank you for your quick response. I did what you instructed as far as uninstalling the keyboard and the drivers and also installing a USB keyboard. surprisingly to me, the spacebar does not work on the USB keyboard or the keyboard I installed. should I do a clean install of Windows I'm very confused any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you.

I just realized something there was an application from Microsoft keyboard layout program for the previously bad keyboard I replaced .. I uninstalled the program, removed the drivers and also did a system restore prior to that program being installed. To see if that helps.. this maybe the cause.

Hi. I wanted to let you know that it worked I remove the keyboard mapping program that I had used to work with the failed keyboard originally. I did a restore previous to the installation and it is running fine. The coincidence of a spacebar not working on this new keyboard was absolutely ridiculous so there had to be something. Thank you for your input.
