Hello, I have the omen max 16 with the 5090, and when I am playing games, I have noticed the GPU's wattage is low. It never reaches up to around 175 watts for its maximum potential. The problem is that when I use 3d mark to benchmark steel nomad, the 5090 hits the 175 watt threshold. So I am confused why its not hitting that when I'm trying to play games. It usually sits around 100-130 watts. This also applies to the CPU. How it benchmarks very good, then while playing games doesn't preform as it should. If anyone knows a fix that would be great!

Hi @zreed10,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding inconsistent power utilization!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you are experiencing inconsistent power utilization in your HP Omen Max 16 while gaming, which is affecting your GPU performance. This issue could be due to several factors, including system settings, thermal limits, or power management profiles. Here are some steps you might consider to improve the situation:

Check Power Settings

  • Ensure that your laptop is plugged in and set to the "High Performance" power plan in Windows. This setting ensures that the system is not imposing any power-saving limitations.

Update Drivers

  • Confirm that all your drivers, especially GPU and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can lead to suboptimal performance.

Monitor Temperature

  • Check the temperature of your GPU and CPU. If the system is overheating, it might throttle performance to prevent damage. Ensure that your cooling system is functioning well, and consider cleaning any dust from vents and fans.

Game Optimization

  • Some games might not be as demanding or optimized to utilize full GPU potential. Consider checking in-game settings or using game optimization tools.

Omen Command Center

  • Use the HP Omen Command Center to monitor performance and adjust thermal settings. The Omen Command Center can provide insights into how your system handles resource allocation.

I hope this helps.
