AC adapter not charging while laptop is on. Works fine when laptop off or sleeps

I am having ac adapter issue where it doesn't charge when laptop is on, but it charges after shut down. i tried using different adapter or running battery/ac diagnostics but neither worked. it doesnt detect ac power at all while laptop is on.  Please help. thanks

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Laptop AC adapter not charging while laptop is on.

I have a few recommendations 

• Faulty BIOS settings can sometimes cause laptop battery not charging.
• Update your Notebook computer to the latest BIOS from HP.COM.
• Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date. 
• Try the same charger on any other HP Laptop and check if it works.
