Hi, I could really use some help with this issue as i've tried every form online and cannot solve. Every game I play crashes within minutes if not immediately. I've checked for all possible updates and cannot figure out the issue. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Mydnite,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with game crashes despite having everything up-to-date. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP OMEN 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop.

Check for Overheating

  • Monitor Temperature: Use tools like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check the temperature of your CPU and GPU. Overheating can cause crashes.
  • Clean Vents: Ensure your laptop’s vents are not blocked and that the fans are working properly. Dust buildup can cause overheating.

Verify Graphics Drivers

  • Reinstall Drivers: Even if they are updated, try reinstalling the graphics drivers. Go to Device Manager, uninstall the drivers, and then reinstall the latest ones from the NVIDIA or AMD website (depending on your GPU).
  • Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU): This tool can help clean out old drivers before reinstalling new ones.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Background Applications: Ensure that no unnecessary background applications or processes are interfering with your games.
  • Antivirus/Firewall: Sometimes antivirus or firewall settings can affect game performance. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue.

Verify Game Files

  • Game Repair: If you’re using platforms like Steam or Epic Games, use the built-in file verification tools to check for corrupted game files.

Update System Firmware

  • BIOS Update: Check for any BIOS updates for your laptop from HP’s support website. BIOS updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

Check Power Settings

  • Power Plan: Ensure that your laptop is set to ‘High Performance’ in the power settings rather than ‘Balanced’ or ‘Power Saver’.

Perform a Clean Boot

  • Clean Boot: This can help identify if a background service or startup program is causing conflicts. You can perform a clean boot by following instructions from Microsoft’s support website.

Inspect Hardware

  • Memory Test: Use Windows Memory Diagnostic or MemTest86 to check for RAM issues.
  • Storage Check: Ensure that your storage drives are functioning properly and are not full.

Check Event Viewer

  • Event Logs: Go to Event Viewer and check the ‘Windows Logs’ under ‘Application’ for any error messages that occur around the time of the crashes. This can sometimes provide clues about the cause.

Try these steps one at a time to see if any of them resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
