Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (2V8Z8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

the battery percentage. For some reason, it never changes. When I first received the laptop, it was at around 35% charge. I used it for about 30 minutes and noticed that it stayed at 35%. Then a few minutes later, it died out of the blue because it was actually at 1%. Once I plugged the charger in, the percentage reset to 1% and I let it charge to 80%.

I then proceeded to use it for around another 30 minutes and noticed that it was still at 80%. When I plugged the charger in, the percentage did not change. It simply went up from 80% to 81% to 82%, etc. I also tried running powercfg /battery report in PowerShell and noticed that it was also unable to determine the actual capacity of the battery. It simply said that it was 99% from last night when I charged it to full.

Would anyone happen to know what is going on here and if there is a way to fix it? I am beginning to suspect that it might be a hardware issue, more than a Windows 11 issue and that there might be a loose connector in the laptop which is supposed to tell Windows how much battery is left.

Hi @Pravin4060,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the battery percentage on your Victus by HP laptop is not decreasing, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check Power Settings: Make sure your laptop is not in a power-saving mode that prevents the battery from discharging. Open the Windows power settings and ensure it's set to a balanced or high-performance mode.
  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software glitches. Restart your laptop and see if the battery percentage starts decreasing afterward.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted battery drivers can cause battery issues. Go to the HP support website and download the latest battery drivers for your Victus laptop.
  • Run Battery Report: Windows has a built-in feature for generating a battery report that can help diagnose battery-related problems. To run a battery report, open Command Prompt with administrative privileges and type: powercfg /batteryreport. Then, follow the generated report to identify any issues.
  • Calibrate Your Battery: Sometimes, calibrating your laptop's battery can help it accurately display the remaining charge. To do this, let the battery drain completely until your laptop shuts down, then fully charge it without interruptions.
  • Check for Background Processes: Background processes or applications can consume power and prevent the battery from discharging. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and check for any resource-intensive processes or apps running in the background. Close unnecessary programs.
  • Check for Malware: Malware can cause unexpected behavior on your laptop, including battery-related issues. Run a full system scan with a reputable antivirus program to check for malware.
  • Reset Power Settings: If you've customized your power settings, resetting them to default can help. Go to the Windows Control Panel, navigate to Power Options, and click "Restore default settings for this plan."
  • Hardware Check: If the issue persists, it could be a hardware problem. HP provides diagnostic tools that can help you check the hardware components of your laptop, including the battery. You can download and run HP Diagnostics.
  • Update BIOS: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP support website. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve battery-related issues.

If none of these steps resolve the problem and your battery percentage still doesn't decrease, it's possible that there is a hardware issue with the battery itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
