HP Omen 16-wd0020nw (i7-13620H,RTX 4060)Hello, I have big problem with battery. Please check https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/s/XyRzlnL3Dz and help me what can I do. The battery is not 100% dead but it turns off after exactly 1 minute. Also when im plugged in, for 1 minute it shows normal stable white light, but then it blinks red light.

@Sebix0_, Thanks for the detailed follow-up, this is very helpful in narrowing down the issue.
Based on your observations:
- Battery test shows "No battery" → The system isn't detecting the battery at all.
- Laptop runs on battery when unplugged → The battery is supplying power, but the system doesn't recognize it.
- Red blinking light even when unplugged → Indicates a battery error or communication fault.
- You recently opened the laptop for thermal paste replacement → This is a key clue.
Likely Cause: Battery Cable Not Fully Seated
HP laptops, especially OMEN models, have tight internal layouts. If the battery cable is even slightly misaligned or partially unplugged:
- The system may not detect the battery via firmware.
- Charging and battery status LEDs may behave abnormally.
- Yet, the battery may still deliver power, explaining why the laptop runs unplugged.
Recommended Steps
Open the Laptop Again
Carefully recheck the battery connector:
- Power off the laptop and unplug the AC adapter.
- Remove the bottom cover (use anti-static precautions).
- Locate the battery connector, ensure it's fully seated and aligned.
- Gently press it in and check for any bent pins or debris.
Reconnect and Test
- Reassemble the laptop.
- Plug in the AC adapter.
- Run the battery test again via F2 > Component Tests > Battery.
Try a BIOS update from HP Support:
Official HP® Support
If the battery still isn’t detected, it could be:
- A damaged battery cable.
- A faulty battery controller.
- A motherboard-side issue.
In that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.

@Sebix0_, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description, battery turning off after exactly 1 minute, white charging light turning red while plugged in, this behavior strongly suggests a battery fault or firmware-level power management issue.
Here are the steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
Perform a Hard Reset
This clears residual electrical charge and resets hardware connections:
- Disconnect the AC adapter and all peripherals.
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter and try powering on.
Run HP Battery Check
Use HP's diagnostic tool to test battery health:
- Download and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI by pressing F2 repeatedly at startup.
- Select Component Tests > Battery Test.
- If the battery fails, the battery needs to be replaced.
Interpret Charging Light Behavior
According to HP documentation:
- White light = Fully charged.
- Amber light = Charging.
- Blinking red/amber = Battery error or not charging.
This confirms a battery fault or charging circuit issue.
Additional Tips
- Avoid using third-party chargers or batteries.
- If the laptop works fine without the battery (plugged in), you can temporarily use it as a desktop until the battery is replaced.

I did the „Hard Reset” and then did the Battery test, it says „No battery”, but apparently, when i unplug the AC adaptor, it works? And by the way, when i unplug the laptop, its still showing red blinking light. Like there is no battery found, but the laptop is working and not shutting down. The only thing i think it MAY be the solve is that i opened the laptop 2 weeks ago for paste change, and the battery cable (which i removed during the change for safety) might be not sitting good and the cable got somehow unplugged, but then how does it works when i unplug the ac? It should automatically turn off right?
