HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0387nia
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi guys! I use a HP pavilion gaming 15 which lasts for five hours but ever since I did a recommend battery calibration my laptop now discharges 1% per minute. I've tried everything possible (even a manual detachment of the battery but that only prompted me to recalibrate the battery again) to get it back to normal but nothing seems to work. Help!!!

Hi @Khiddafa,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the battery calibration process may not have gone as intended or there could be another issue causing rapid battery drain. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.

  • Check Power Settings: Make sure your power settings are optimized for battery life. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select a power plan that is designed to conserve battery life.
  • Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers are up to date, especially the battery driver. You can do this through Device Manager or by visiting the HP website.
  • Run Power Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooting tools that can help diagnose and fix power-related issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then select Power under "Find and fix other problems".
  • Check Background Processes: Some background processes or applications might be draining your battery faster than usual. Use Task Manager to check for any applications consuming a lot of resources and close them if necessary.
  • Reset Battery Calibration: Try recalibrating the battery again. Fully charge your laptop, then let it completely drain until it shuts down. Charge it back to full capacity without interruption.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP website. Sometimes BIOS updates can address battery-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi  ALDEN4!

Thanks for the reply. But about the bios update you mentioned in you reply, i already downloaded the latest bios update but whilst installing the update, I had a power cut and that disrupted the install then I had to revert back to the previous bios version. But every time I try to check for bios update (so as to download the bios update I had issues with) using HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS window ,it keeps saying it's up to date.Could you help with that?

Thanks!

Hi @Khiddafa,

Thank you for your response,

Experiencing a power cut during a BIOS update can indeed lead to issues with your system. Since you've reverted back to the previous BIOS version and are having trouble re-installing the problematic update, here are a few steps you can try.

  • Manual Download: Visit the HP Support website and manually search for your laptop model. Look for BIOS updates specifically for your model and download the appropriate one.
  • USB Flash Drive Method: Some BIOS updates can be installed from a USB flash drive. Check the HP Support website for instructions on how to create a bootable USB drive with the BIOS update file and how to install it from there.
  • HP Support Assistant: If you haven't already, try using HP Support Assistant, a software tool provided by HP to keep your system up to date. It might detect the BIOS update that's available for your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi ALDEN4!

I've tried manual download but my operating system is not even listed there to begin with and HP support assistant is not detecting any update. And if I can't even download the update, there's no way I use the USB flash drive method. Please 🙏 could you just share the link to the latest bios update?

Thanks for the reply and thanks in advance.
