Battery drains within an hour on my new HP Victus 16" Gaming Laptop

Have had my Laptop since July 2024, and from day one my battery keeps running out within 40mins... even if i am not doing anything and just leave the Laptop on reading content on one website... so not other real application running out of the usual. This kept happening until it became a problem for me as i needed the laptop for remote use and without AC Power charger, but since the battery doesn't hold charge for long, i had to report to HP support as i had a 3yr Care Pack that i bought too with Laptop. Unfortunately even support did not help much, kept making me do diagnostic checks and all of them came back with Battery being ok except for one issue that the full charge capacity shown in bios test came back as 82%. Not sure now what needs to be done but even if the battery gets charged to full 100%, doubt that's going to change it from lasting for more than an hour and that's just not acceptable. Anyone else had a similar issue? If yes how did you resolve it?

Check the background programs in Windows settings; most of them do not need to be running in the background.

82% of the total charge indicates that the battery has deteriorated somewhat. When sold new, that value should be 100%. then over time it degrades. 82% indicates that the battery has lost at least one hour of use. When Windows shows 100% charge, it is 100% of the 82% total charge that the battery currently supports.

Hi Resistencia, thanks for your reply. So, issue is battery from day 1 keeps draining out within the 1st hour of use. So the fact that you mention deterioration, does that mean it could be also a faulty battery altogether? I ask as its never lasted more than an hour. Even when the Laptop was used for the first month when it came out of the box.

You say that from day one, you charge the battery to 100% and it doesn't last more than an hour. That's not normal.
