Hello community!
I have an issue with my Victus 16.1. I was having an issue with the battery initially where Windows would shut down with 30ish% remaining battery life, and it was suggested somewhere on these boards to do a calibration on the battery to sort it out. The battery only has around 80 cycles on it, but it sat unused for sometime so I figured it couldn't hurt.
I've done the calibration, and the 70Wh battery now shows a capacity of 5mWh (as in milliwatts, not megawatts) and the laptop turns itself off while plugged into the charger with a battery low warning, which just seems like a stupid issue to have to deal with.
I've tried to do another battery calibration, however the HP Support app just tells me the battery is "weak", and won't allow me to calibrate it again. I expect some battery degradation over the years, but not to the point of only having 0.00007% of the original capacity.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi @Malfruen,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your Victus by HP 16-e0000 laptop report a battery capacity of just 5mWh after calibration, especially when it previously shut down at 30% and now won’t even stay on while plugged in. You’ve done everything right by trying calibration and checking with HP Support Assistant.
Here’s what’s going on and how you can move forward:
The battery calibration process may have misread or corrupted the battery’s internal charge data, especially if the battery sat unused for a long time. This can cause:
- Incorrect capacity reporting (like 5mWh instead of 70Wh).
- False battery low warnings even when plugged in.
- HP Support Assistant labeling the battery as “weak” and refusing further calibration.
Steps to Fix or Confirm the Issue
1. Run HP UEFI Battery Diagnostics
This bypasses Windows and gives a more accurate battery status.
- Turn off your laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 to enter diagnostics.
- Go to Component Tests > Power > Battery and click Run Once.
- If the battery fails, note the Failure ID and status.

2. Try Manual Battery Calibration
If HP Support Assistant won’t let you calibrate again, you can do it manually:
- Fully charge the battery to 100%.
- Unplug the charger and let the laptop run until it shuts down.
- Leave it off for at least 5 hours.
- Plug it back in and charge to 100% again without interruption.
This helps reset the battery gauge and may restore proper readings.
3. Check for Firmware or BIOS Updates
Sometimes battery misreporting is caused by outdated firmware.
- Visit the Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 | HP® Support and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
4. If Battery Still Shows 5mWh
This is a sign of battery cell failure or EEPROM corruption. If your laptop is under warranty, HP should replace the battery.
