HP Omen 17-w-206na
17.3" Gaming Laptop - 128gb Nvme-1tb Hdd 12gb Ram
Battery only charges to 93% even with power off. When unplugged the run time is about 40 minutes of basic use (not gaming).
I can't give a serial number as the label has been peeled off.
Is this a dodgy battery?

Battery charging information is here but 40 minutes indicates a problem.
note that %85 is recommended charge rate if you want the battery to last a long time
some bios have the setting but it might be a windows app setting.
Please run the battery report and post the summery if you want
you run the battery report by bringing up the administrator command window and running
powercfg/batteryreport |
as shown below
After entering that explorer line you should see something like the following. You will have to click on it as it is long

Most HP batteries have a serial number. The manufacturer is a code indicating the manufacturing site.
Battery should last about 2-4 years but less for gaming systems. Have you done a battery calibration?

Your Microsoft account has it listed under devices. When Windows was activated the information was uploaded. Use the same credentials (username and password) to log into Microsoft account.
The HP support assistant and I believe also in the MSINFO.EXE app can reveal the serial number.
for Ubuntu possibly this app
with windows 10 or 11 you might want to be able to find your system if lost or stolen
