So I’ve got this HP VICTUS 15-FA0031DX Gaming Laptop. Recently the computer would turn on but with no display output. Power cycling would fix this issue. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. I have tried many different troubleshooting steps, including disconnecting the battery, letting the laptop discharge, and turning the laptop on by only plugging it into an outlet, with the battery disconnected. I have also tried connecting to an external monitor, but still no display output. I have also done the BIOS Recovery, still because nothing ever displays when I hold Win + B. Nothing no blinking lights, no beeps. Nothing.

Hi @Vancey
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for explaining everything so clearly—I’m really sorry this has escalated to a complete black screen with no signs of life. You’ve already tried all the right steps: power cycling, battery discharge, external monitor, and BIOS recovery.
The fact that there’s no display, no beeps, no keyboard lights, and no blinking LEDs suggests a deep board-level fault, possibly involving:
- A failed embedded controller (EC)
- A shorted power rail or VRM
- A corrupted or inaccessible BIOS chip
- A damaged display or GPU circuit
Let’s walk through a few final checks before service becomes necessary:
1. Inspect Charging LED Behavior
- Plug in the charger and observe the charging LED near the port:
- Solid white or amber: Power rail is active.
- Blinking or no light: May indicate a short or controller fault.
If there’s no light at all, the system may be locked in protection mode.
2. Try a Bare Boot (Board-Level Isolation)
This helps isolate faults by removing all non-essential components:
- Disconnect battery, SSD, RAM, and any peripherals.
- Plug in only the charger.
- Press and hold power button for 30 seconds, then release.
- Press power again and observe any signs of life (fan spin, LED flicker, keyboard flash).
If the system powers on without RAM, you should hear beeps—if not, the board may be unresponsive.
3. Check for Signs of Short or Burn
- Inspect the battery connector, charger port, and motherboard (if accessible) for:
- Burn marks
- Smell of scorched plastic
- Discoloration or melted pins
The spark you mentioned earlier could have triggered a board-level protection lockout.
4. Try HP BIOS Recovery One Last Time
Only attempt if you see any LED activity:
- Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold power button for 2–3 seconds.
- Release power but continue holding Windows + B for up to 40 seconds.
If nothing appears, the BIOS chip may be corrupted or inaccessible.
You’ve done everything right by documenting your steps and isolating the issue. Let me know if you saw any LED behavior or if the charger light responds—I’ll guide you further.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Hi there!
Thanks for getting back to me on this!
To start, I can confirm that the power rail seems to be just fine. There is no behavior out of the ordinary with the LED indicator.
When attempting the bare boot, I was met with running fans and a blinking code from the CAPS lock button. It blinks three times slowly, then two times fast.
Upon inspecting the underside of the computer, I’m not seeing any burns or indicators of damage from overheating.
Finally, when attempting BIOS recovery again, I was met with the same running fans, led indicating it’s powered on, and no other notable differences.
I’m at my wits end with this thing, but I can’t give up because I can’t afford to buy a new one! I appreciate your help this far. 🙂

Thanks for explaining everything so clearly—I’m really sorry the issue with your HP Victus 15-fa0031dx has reached this point.
I completely understand how frustrating and stressful this must be, especially when the system shows signs of life but won’t display anything.
This now requires a repair/service to get the laptop working again.
Let me know if you need help in setting up a service or checking the out of warranty options.
Thanks!
