OMEN Laptop - 15-dh1088nr
Microsoft Windows 11

I updated my laptop from the Windows optional updates and when it was installed it said "Needs Restart" after restart nothing came on my screen it's not been 12 hours and I've reseeded RAM, and storage, tried all hot keys, tried starting the laptop holding windows + b, windows + v, just v, plus every other fix I found online. Even if I can reset bios it still has black screen after update and after resetting cmos, can't boot in safe mode or factory reset or anything cause even though laptop is working fine and running my driver or whatever that update did it will not show anything besides black screen. Can't even turn on with windows +b or c any more cause I've done it so much. Please help I spent all my money on this laptop and it worked fine till this one update.

Hi @GhostlyxMode,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the firmware update might have caused a critical issue, such as a corrupt BIOS or a failure during the update, which can lead to the black screen you're experiencing. Since you've tried a wide range of troubleshooting methods without success, here are some additional steps you can take.

Hard Reset the Laptop

  • Unplug the power adapter and disconnect any external devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to fully drain residual power.
  • Plug the adapter back in and try turning it on.

BIOS Recovery Using Key Combinations

Since you’ve already tried this a few times, you can give it one more shot:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press and hold the Windows key + B (or Windows key + V) and the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding the Windows + B/V keys until the BIOS recovery screen shows up.
  • If the screen still doesn't come on, move to the next step.

External Display Test

Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI or DisplayPort to see if the display works externally. This will help determine if the issue is related to the laptop's screen itself or something more fundamental.

Try Removing the CMOS Battery Again

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect the battery (if possible).
  • Remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Reinsert the CMOS battery, plug the main battery back in, and try turning the laptop on again.

Use a BIOS Recovery USB

  • Download the latest BIOS firmware for your HP OMEN model from the HP support site on another computer.
  • Create a BIOS recovery USB drive using the HP BIOS utility.
    • HP has a specific tool called HP System BIOS Update Utility for creating a BIOS recovery drive.
  • Plug the USB into your OMEN laptop, then attempt the Windows + B/V method again to initiate BIOS recovery from the USB.

HP Diagnostic USB

You can create a HP PC Hardware Diagnostics USB to run hardware tests, which might help diagnose the issue:

  • Download the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool from the HP support website onto a USB stick.
  • Plug it into your OMEN and try booting into it to test the hardware.

These steps aim to address potential firmware corruption or display-related issues that could have been triggered by the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
