Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution
HP Recommended

Switched on my Omen after coming back from holiday and it only lasted around 5-10 minutes before black screen. I assumed power issues but it seems I am able to successfully charge (light indicates full charge).

This has now happened 5 times over the last 24 hours, I'm still trying to diagnose the issue. I cannot immediately turn it back on after it black screens. I have waited anywhere between 45 minutes and 3 hours for it to allow me to turn it back on.

I was able to play around in BIOS diagnostics for up to an hour with no problems. The only test which has produced the same black screen has been thermal CPU test in BIOS.

Laptop is 8 months old, used sparingly. Still under 2 year warranty at store. Should I return or continue to try and diagnose? HP warranty still available for 2 months.

I'm assuming overheating but three hours is a long time to cool down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @HelpPlease66,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your overheating PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems like your HP Omen laptop may be experiencing overheating issues, which could be causing the black screen after a short period. Here are a few steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Ventilation Check: Ensure that your laptop's vents are not blocked or clogged with dust. Use compressed air to carefully clean the vents.

Surface Check: Make sure the laptop is placed on a flat surface. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like a bed or sofa, as this can restrict airflow.

Temperature Monitoring: Use software to monitor your laptop's temperature. There are various programs available that can help you keep an eye on CPU and GPU temperatures.

Cooling Pad: Consider using a cooling pad to help improve airflow and reduce the overall temperature.

Driver Update: Ensure all your drivers, especially graphics drivers, are up-to-date.

System Update: Check for any available system updates that might address stability issues.

I hope this helps.
