Hi @Tomilla,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Brightness adjustment issues on laptops can stem from various causes, especially after a system change like setting up OneDrive and restarting. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue on your Victus 15 Gaming Laptop:
1. Check Brightness Settings
First, make sure the brightness settings are accessible and not disabled by mistake:
- Windows 10/11: Go to Settings > System > Display and try adjusting the brightness slider.
2. Update Display Drivers
Outdated or corrupted display drivers can cause brightness adjustment issues. Updating them might help:
- Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click on your display adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Alternatively, you can visit the HP website (HP, for the Victus series) to download and install the latest drivers for your specific model.
3. Reinstall Display Drivers
If updating doesn't work, reinstalling the drivers might help:
- In Device Manager, right-click on your display adapter and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the display driver upon reboot. If not, download and install the driver from the manufacturer’s website.
4. Adjust Power Settings
Sometimes, power settings can affect brightness control:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the Display section and adjust the brightness settings there.
5. Update Windows
Make sure your Windows OS is up to date:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click on Check for updates.
6. Check OneDrive Settings
Although rare, sometimes OneDrive sync settings might interfere with system operations:
- Ensure OneDrive is not syncing any system or configuration files.
- Try pausing OneDrive sync and see if the brightness control is restored.
7. Run Windows Troubleshooter
Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter to diagnose and fix issues:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters.
- Run the Power troubleshooter
8. BIOS/UEFI Settings
Check your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure nothing is affecting the display:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del during startup).
- Look for any settings related to the display and brightness.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
