My initial problem was that my laptop is plugged in, the adapter light is white, but it is not charging. I have temporarily solved the issue through repeated removals of batteries and unplugging and plugging in again, but I realized that I put the battery in wrong so I had to take it back out and when I put it back in, the problem rearose. I tried updating my BIOS, but it's blocked on my device. By the way, every time I rebooted my computer, I got a black screen with an error that said CMOS Reset (502). I don't know what the problem is, I bought this laptop around 2 months ago.

I see from your post that you're getting an error on your HP Notebook. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you tried to update the Bios using HP Support Assistant.
Have you tried to do a bios recovery on your PC.
Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook:
Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

If there is a battery compartment, use the steps in Reset a laptop with a removable battery.

If there is no battery compartment, use the steps in Reset a laptop with a sealed or non-removable battery.

I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults.You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. That way it will look at the Hardware installed on the Notebook.
Once done, restart the computer and check.
The best way to resolve this issue is to revert the BIOS to the previous working version and here's how you do it:
