Hi @Divyank112

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your laptop charges only when powered off, and shows blinking lights when powered on, which suggests a power delivery or battery communication fault—often caused by a degraded battery, faulty adapter, or BIOS/power controller issue.

I’m really sorry this is disrupting your workflow—especially when the charger seems to connect and disconnect erratically. That blinking power button and charging light are your system’s way of signaling trouble with power regulation.

Let’s walk through a few precise steps to help restore consistent charging and eliminate the blinking behavior.

Step-by-step recovery for charging failure with blinking lights

1. Perform a hardware reset

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the charger and all peripherals.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power on and observe the charging light behavior.

This clears residual charge and resets the embedded controller.

2. Inspect the AC adapter and charging port

  • Confirm the adapter is HP-branded and matches your laptop’s wattage rating.
  • Check the charging port for dust, debris, or looseness.
  • Try a different HP adapter if available to rule out power delivery issues.

3. Update BIOS and chipset drivers

  • Visit: HP Drivers & Downloads
  • Enter your laptop model and install the latest:
    • BIOS update
    • Chipset drivers
    • Power management drivers

These updates improve battery detection and charging logic.

4. Run HP Battery Diagnostics

If the battery shows “Very Weak” or “Replace,” it’s no longer functional and may be causing the blinking and charging failure.

5. Observe LED behavior

  • Blinking amber or white often signals battery faults or low charge.
  • No light when powered on may indicate battery disconnection or controller failure.

Let me know what battery status appears in diagnostics or if the blinking pattern changes after the hardware reset—I’ll guide you further based on what you find.
