If you have a display port or a 2.0 hdmi port you may be able to use an external monitor. I have an012dx which has the rx580. They told us the only way to get over 60hz was an external monitor with a display port mini to display port cable. If you have an hdmi port that can do 4k you should also be able to 120hz from that port with a 4k cable as long as the monitor you use has an hdmi2.0 port but most dont. That is why everyone recommends display port for high refresh rates.
