Hello everybody, I need some help. So I bought my computer in october of 2018 and some problems are starting to appear. So this goes for everything, but for example when I try to download a game through, lets say steam, my computer gives me around 700 kbps of read and write speeds, sometimes even lower, and im not sure what to do about this. I don't get any error codes, thats simply it its my hard drive i belive, but I can't verify. So if anyone can help me that would be amaming. Thanks.

Hello @Eli16
Where are you seeing these speeds at? Can you post a screen shot to help us better understand what you mean?
When it comes to the internet, anything can happen, especially if using Steam to download games. You are only as strong as the weakest link and its not usually your PC when it comes to downloading files.
You're also using a standard mechanical Hard Drive. You might consider upgrading to an SSD. There will be an overall big difference in performance.
If you feel your hard drive is slow, you can run a speed test on it to give you a general idea of whats going on.
Here is a popular tester... https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskmark/
Use the Standard Edition Zip file type.
Also find what your ISP subscription speed is and if its living up to what you pay for... https://www.speedtest.net/

So I have installed crystal disk but it says I get a relative speed of 84 Mbps for disk read and write, but doing anything that involves downloading for installing anything doesn't give me the speeds it says I should be getting here's a screenshot. This is just an example.

Hm, I see what you mean now.
Not sure what I can suggest here, Ive not come across the particular issue before.
What is your ISP speed rating from Speedtest show?
Does this only happen if using Steam or other downloads too?
You can open the UEFI Diagnostics from boot and run tests on the hard drive to see if there is an issue.
Most of the time it finds them, but not 100%.
With the computer off, press the power button on and rapidly tap the F2 key until the Diag menu appears.
Go to Component Tests and test the hard drive with first the quick test. If nothing if found, then run the extensive test.
Also in Component tests, there should be a test for network, run that too.
Incidentally, I ran some downloads from Steam and was getting averages between 2 and 40 Mbs write speed to an HDD.
But it depended on the game downloaded.
My network speed is 80Mbs down with speedtest.

I'm not at my house currently, but at collage. My internet service provider is Mediacom. And yes it does live up to what I wanted it to. It isn't just steam either, its everything. My computer isn't really worth the 12-13 hundred dollars I paid for it right now. So when I run the tests when I get home I will give you further information. I get around 60 Mbps with the speed test, but because of my hard drive's insanely low speeds, it's not living up to the internet I have. So, yeah like I said I'll get back to you with more information in around an hour to 2 hours. Thanks for the help.

Im afraid you got me stumped on this one. Speed tests are showing OK as you mentioned so I doubt its a wifi driver issue.
Would you be able to try it via an ethernet connection instead of wifi, just to see if it made any difference?

Well, thanks anyways. I can verify it the hard drive, but I'm not sure what's wrong with it. So, I'm going to order an SSD in replace. I'm hoping this fixes the issue, if not its something else, I've already reset the pc several times, and clean booted along with formatting the drive. So yeah, thanks to more the help. Have a great day!
