My HP Omen 16-wd0275ng suddenly started power-cycling - the screen and power LED were blinking on and off rapidly.
I entered the F11 recovery menu, but it blinked again and shut off completely.
Since then, it won't power on: the fans spin briefly once, then stop; the battery light stays solid red.
I've tried power discharge, Win + B and Win + V BIOS recovery, and recovery USB, but it's completely unresponsive.
The charger LED is on, so power is OK. It looks like the EC or BIOS firmware is corrupted and the system is stuck in protection mode.

Hi @Leon_Bisge,

I understand your HP Omen 16-wd0275ng is completely unresponsive after sudden power cycling, and the battery light is solid red despite the charger working. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.
a. Power Reset / Discharge
Disconnect the charger and all external devices.
Press and hold the Power button for 30–40 seconds to fully discharge any residual power.
Reconnect the charger only and try powering on.
b. BIOS/EC Recovery Attempts
You already tried Windows + B and Windows + V; ensure the USB recovery drive is:
Formatted as FAT32.
Contains the correct BIOS file for your exact model.
Connected to the primary USB port (try rear or main side if applicable).
Press Windows + B (or V) before pressing Power and hold for 2–3 seconds, then release the keys while keeping the system on the USB drive.
c. Check Battery / Charger Status
Solid red battery LED usually indicates battery protection mode or failure.
If the laptop has a removable battery, disconnect it and try powering on AC only.
If battery is internal, the red LED may indicate EC detects a fault; sometimes leaving the laptop plugged in for 30–60 minutes while holding the Power button can allow EC to reset.
d. Minimal Hardware Boot
Disconnect everything non-essential (SSD, secondary RAM if dual, USB devices).
Try powering on with only one RAM module and AC connected.
This isolates any hardware causing the EC to lock down.
I hope this helps.

I think it entered the deepest state of protection because it looks like it doesn't even try to perform recovery-related actions.
BIOS recovery block might also be damaged.
I think there is only one thing left: service center.
But I appreciate your help and hope that this article will help someone else!

Hi @Leon_Bisge,
Thank you for the update. I understand your HP Omen 16-wd0275ng is completely unresponsive and appears to be in a deep protection/EC lock state. Let’s go through some additional steps you can try before considering service:
a. Power Discharge (Hard Reset)
Disconnect the charger and any external devices (USB, HDMI, etc.).
Press and hold the Power button for 40–60 seconds to drain all residual power.
Reconnect only the charger and try powering on the laptop.
b. BIOS/EC Recovery via USB
Ensure your USB recovery drive is:
Formatted as FAT32
Contains the correct BIOS file for your exact model
Connect the USB drive to a primary USB port (rear or main side).
Press and hold Windows + B (or Windows + V) before pressing Power, hold for 2–3 seconds, then release while keeping the system on the USB drive.
Leave it for 2–3 minutes to see if the system responds.
c. Check Battery / Charger
Solid red battery LED indicates a battery/EC protection mode.
If removable: disconnect battery and power on using AC only.
If internal: leave the laptop plugged in for 30–60 minutes while holding the Power button to see if EC resets.
I hope this helps.
