OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-db0000 (9A9W1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello i had an old hp omen that worked fine with audio/mic on windows 10 pro

Since i bought a 2023 17 inch omen that came with windows 11 home i had issues with mic

Apps have a variable delay in acessing microphones 0,5 - 2 seg  (internal ou peripherical) before i starts working

all drivers are updated form hp support assistant. All windows drivers are updated

Tried disableling every audio enhancement issue and nothing worked.

Apps i use have hot simultaneous keys to activate mic like CTRL + K or Ctrl + shift R. Tried to see if could be a keyboard issue nothing worked. Thinking about formatting and instaling windows 10 to see if persists ......

Any idea??

@Aquineton, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Omen 17!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Since you’ve already updated all drivers through HP Support Assistant and checked for Windows updates (great troubleshooting steps, by the way!), here are a few additional things we can try:

Adjust Microphone Privacy Settings

Sometimes Windows privacy settings can interfere with mic responsiveness:

  • Go to SettingsPrivacy & SecurityMicrophone
  • Make sure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is turned ON.
  • Also, scroll down and ensure that the specific apps you're using have permission to access the microphone.

Disable Exclusive Mode

Exclusive mode can sometimes cause delays:

  • Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar → Sounds
  • Under the Recording tab, select your microphone → Properties
  • Go to the Advanced tab and uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."

Check Audio Driver Rollback

Even though drivers are up to date, sometimes the latest version might not be the most stable:

  • Open Device ManagerAudio inputs and outputs
  • Right-click on your microphone and select Properties
  • Under the Driver tab, try rolling back the driver to a previous version (if available).

Test with Windows Audio Troubleshooter

Windows has a built-in tool that can sometimes pinpoint and resolve these issues:

  • Go to SettingsSystemSound
  • Under Input, select your microphone and click Troubleshoot.

Clean Boot Test

To rule out software conflicts, try a clean boot:

  • Type msconfig in the search bar → System Configuration
  • Under the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services"Disable all
  • Restart your PC and see if the delay persists.

If none of these steps work and you’re considering going back to Windows 10, that’s definitely an option — but let’s see if we can avoid that! Let me know how it goes or if you need more help.

We’ll figure this out together! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
