Hi,

So, my laptop's display went blank randomly and doesn't work even after hard reset. However connecting the laptop to a TV via a HDMI cable is working. Only the original display of laptop doesn't seem to be working.  I don't want to keep using the TV for working on my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ananth

Hello Ananth,

One possible theory might be a connection issue with your cable connecting the panel inside the case.

If you try pressing around various spots of the case next to the lid or around the screen bezel or lid itself when its blacked out, does it make the screen come back on again?

If so, either the cable is loose and needs re-seated or the connector, cable or screen itself is failing.

It could still be any one of those issues, but if you find it works when pressing around, you will know for sure.

I tried pressing the aforementioned spots but the display still isn't working.

OK, then like I mentioned, the panel or cable might have a loose connection.

I assume you are not under warranty anymore, correct?

IF not, then you will have to open the case and check for loose connections. If re-seating doesn't work, you may have to replace the cable/panel. Or you could take it in to a repair shop and have them take a look.

Yeah my laptop isn't under warranty anymore. I did take my laptop to two repair shops and they asked me to contact HP Technical Support to send a person to repair it since they weren't familiar with the hardware apparently.

Sorry to hear that. Its trial and error troubleshooting unfortunately. I have no idea why those shops turned it away unfortunately. Usually if a shop orders a new panel, they make the customer pay for it up front whether it fixes the issue or not, so I don't know.

I cant guarantee it needs a panel replacement either, but it most likely will based on what you said. Open the case/bezel and re-seat the cable connections like I advised first. That is all I can offer.

Thanks for your advice and your time. I guess I should wait for HP to  respond and send a person to repair the display rather than do it myself and make matters worse.

Thanks again,

Ananth
