OK thanks.
Your model is an OMEN 15-ax038tx.
You are probably experiencing low gaming fps due to two different reasons.
1. The most important is the fact that your system has a GTX 965M graphics card. The laptop probably came with a 120 watt AC adapter/charger cord.
IF so, its the wrong charger. Its supposed to be 150 watts. As its aged a little, you are noticing the drops in FPS because the video card isnt getting enough power.
HP will replace the charger but you need to do it asap. Wait too long after warranty and it will be too late.
Check the power adapter and tell me what it is. It has to be changed if its only 120 watts.
2. It might also be an Nvidia driver issue. If you have the latest driver from them or the latest from HP, you might have to uninstall it and install and older one. Version 388.13 has been known to work best at the moment.
The current driver has to be clean uninstalled first. Use Guru3D DDU to do it. Then install the older driver.
Yes you need to be plugged in to the power cord when gaming. Running a game on battery only, will drop performance and kill your battery sooner.
