Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15 cx0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am planning to install a SATA SSD and an m.2 one. I know I have to replace the intel optane with the m.2 but what port does the motherboard have so i know which m.2 to buy?

Its always helps us if you include the product number of your PC so we know exactly what you have.

Its located in the HP Support Assistant or you can tap the F1 key at power-on to access the info menu.

The Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15 cx0xxx series can use either NVMe or Sata M.2 SSD's. Its flexible.

But note that because of the flexibility, if you use an NVMe (PCIe 3x4) type, its speed will be cut in half because of some PCIe lanes being used for Sata.

Which type you choose is personal preference. I would go with which ever offers the best deal for the money.

If you find a good deal on a Sata M.2 drive, don't pass it up. You wont physically see much difference between it and NVMe in your case. Its up to you.

I have not replaced an Optane drive myself, but I understand that you might want to follow the steps to disable the Intel Optane setup before removing it. See the last two options at the bottom of the list in this link...

Here is your manual... http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05985643

Sorry for not including the product number. Here it is: 3WF00UA#ABA

Also: Thanks, I'll probably go with a SATA m.2 drive. Does the manual have instructions for how to open up the laptop and install it?

Yes the manual does.

But your product number shows you have an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0020nr.

There is no mention in the specs about it having Intel Optane installed.

I would double check your system to make sure if this is correct or not. Then proceed as needed.
