I’ve been using the OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-wf0148TX for the past 4 months. Recently, I’ve noticed that I get a mild shock whenever I use the laptop, even when it’s not connected to an AC charger. If I’m wearing shoes, people who touch me while I’m working on the laptop also get shocked. Could you please advise?

Hi @Geethu_Govind,

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-wf0148TX is giving you electric shocks even when not connected to the charger, and others can feel it when touching you. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot and address this serious safety concern.
1. Stop Using the Laptop Immediately
Power off the laptop and unplug all peripherals.
Avoid using it until the source of the electric shock is identified.
Prolonged exposure to electric shocks can be dangerous.
2. Inspect for Physical Damage
Check the laptop casing and ports for cracks, burn marks, or moisture.
Examine the power adapter and cables for frayed wires or exposed metal.
3. Verify Electrical Grounding
If you have been using a metal desk or outlet without proper grounding, it can lead to leakage currents.
Try using the laptop on a different grounded outlet.
Even without the charger connected, residual grounding issues or faulty internal components can cause shocks.
4. Test Without Accessories
Remove all connected devices (USBs, external drives, docking stations).
Check if shocks persist with just the laptop.
5. Environmental Factors
Ensure your environment isn’t contributing to static buildup (e.g., carpeted floors, synthetic clothing).
Humidity can affect static discharge, but this should not cause shocks through the laptop casing.
I hope this helps.

The source of electric-shock was identified: Ethernet cable/LAN Cable
I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the support assistant for their valuable guidance in resolving the electric shock issue with my HP OMEN 16-wf0148tx gaming laptop. The recommendation to test the device without accessories was highly effective. Upon removing all connected devices, including the LAN cable, I noted that the shocks ceased completely. This action successfully pinpointed the Ethernet connection as the source, likely due to a static discharge or grounding fault.
The advice provided has not only addressed the problem but also offered me a practical method for future troubleshooting. I am grateful for the expertise and prompt support, and I will ensure the use of a properly shielded LAN cable and a well-grounded port going forward. This experience underscores the utility of the suggested approach, and I am thankful for the support received.
