Hi @TejasrAaj

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

XMP/EXPO memory profiles cannot be enabled on HP Omen 16 gaming laptops because the BIOS does not provide manual memory tuning options. These settings are locked by design to ensure system stability and thermal control.

Thanks for sharing your configuration—your i7-14650HX and RTX 5050 setup is powerful and well-balanced for gaming and productivity. It’s understandable to want to unlock every bit of performance, especially from high-speed DDR5 memory. However, HP Omen laptops are engineered with fixed memory profiles that automatically optimize for compatibility and thermal safety.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening and what you can do:

Why XMP/EXPO can’t be enabled manually

  • HP Omen BIOS is locked for memory tuning: Unlike custom-built desktops or enthusiast motherboards, HP gaming laptops do not expose XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD) toggles in BIOS. This is intentional to prevent instability or overheating in compact chassis designs.

  • Memory runs at JEDEC default speeds: Even if your DDR5 modules support higher speeds, the system will default to JEDEC-standard frequencies unless pre-configured by HP.

  • No BIOS override or third-party tools: There are no supported methods to force-enable XMP/EXPO via software or firmware on HP laptops.

What you can do to maximize memory performance

  • Ensure dual-channel configuration: If your laptop has two memory modules installed, dual-channel mode will significantly boost bandwidth. You can confirm this in Task Manager > Performance > Memory.

  • Use HP Performance Mode: Open the HP App > My Omen Dashboard > Performance Control and select Performance Mode to allow higher power draw and thermal headroom.

  • Keep BIOS and chipset drivers updated: Visit the official HP support page for your model:
HP Omen 16 Drivers and BIOS
Enter your exact model (e.g., 16-am0241TX) to find the latest BIOS and system firmware.

Let me know if you’d like help checking your memory configuration or locating the latest BIOS for your specific model. You’re doing everything right by exploring your system’s capabilities, and I’ll be here to guide you through any performance tuning that’s available.
