System: Gaming laptop HP Omen 15-dc0805no (i7-8750H, GTX 1070, 16GB RAM, SSD+HDD, Win10 home 64)

FPS fluctuating heavily when playing Call of Duty (BO4, MW), even with really low game video quality settings, latest Nvidia driver with clean reinstall, and all up to date with HP Support Assistant. Also noted CPU load 85-100%, and GPU load close to 0%. Good result in UserBenchmark, but RAM speed is just 15.2 GB/s which seems very low for a 2019 hi-spec gaming machine. CPU-Z indicating single channel RAM - in my opinion it's a scam to put only one RAM-module in this dual channel capable computer. Some users report significant gaming improvements when solving RAM bandwidth issues on similar machines.

Questions:
1) How to solve this FPS fluctuation? Will dual channel RAM solve this?

2) I want HP to upgrade my computer to dual channel RAM, free of charge, please advice.

3) What hardware (exact generic spec) is needed to a) keeping current RAM-module and making the system dual channel, and b) removing current RAM-module and making the system dual channel?

Thanks,
Johan

@JohanDi
Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Here's a video on how to disable the "turbo mode" that causes this issue: Click here

If you aren't able to disable it permanently, use the below steps:

If you are running Windows 8 it could be an admin rights problem.

  • Navigate to this folder:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static
  • Find CCC.exe, right click>properties>compatibility tab
  • Tick the 'run this program as an administrator' option and hit ok.
  • Do the same thing for MOM.exe

You may have to restart the PC for the changes to take effect, then try disabling overdrive, restart the game to see if it fixes it.

Thanks for your attention Echo_Lake!

My computer has an Intel i7-8750H, not AMD as in the video you linked. Is there a similar procedure relevant to my Intel CPU?

@JohanDi

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate that you've attempted the steps mentioned and I'll be more than glad to help you out:

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.
