HP Omen 15 en0 Series (2020)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I resume from standby, the Notebook works for some minutes with it's fan turned off. Until I do something demanding. Then the fan kicks in. Everything ok until here.

But if I stop something demanding it takes like forever to stop the even. I watched open processed and temperatures. They are all okay. I installed all updates. (Windows 10 v2004) The fan could stop a lot earlier. The thermales are ok. If I artificially put it to stand bye and resume. The fans stay off.

HP could your please improve the thermals/fan algorithms on your Omen 15 (2020) en0-series?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's do a BIOS update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

And updates through the HP Support Assistant:

HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Let me know if this helps.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks!

Have a great day!

I tried to update everything. I guess it's the baked in fan curve.

Currently the cpu temps are about 50°C-60°C  while browsing. After resuming the laptop from standby, the fan stays off for some minutes. At some point when there is a demanding task, the fan kicks in. Then temps fall back to 45°C but the fan stays a lower speed for about additional 5 minutes until it turns off.

I made a series of tests to analyse the fan behavior. I used AMD tool to configure/limit the CPU to max boost at 55°C. Temps where about 60°C under load and the fan still kicks in somehow. Often they stay for a while at lowest RPM (but still noticable in office environments) for some time, even when temps lower 60°C.

I could trick the FAN control to turn the fan by setting the Omen Control to MAX FAN and blast it for about 30sec. Then back to AUTO. It stays mostly then stays at lowest. But then again MAX for 10sec and back to AUTO will turn it off. Very strange behavior. Temps were very low after the first 30sec MAX blast.

I'll recommend that the HP FAN control software/firmware needs to check temps more often. HP Omen Control updated temperatures in 5-20sec delays. Other tools detected a lower temperature earlier.

Also I would like to have a NO FAN mode. Temps will get higher and the Laptop will throttle. But that would be a great experience for web browsing. The AMD processor is super fast even when limited to 15 watts then.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Omen Command Center.

I did it and needed to re-accept terms. With the fan it's the same behavior as before.

Fan kicks in. Then temperatures in Omen Control Center lower again to about 50°C. Because I am justing webbrowsing. But the fan doesn't stop. Instead it's running on lowest RPM. It's only the left fan. I can clearly hear it from the left side of the laptop.

If I am lucky it will stop after 5min. I'll expect it to stop as soon as the temperatures lower. Not 5 min after.

Uninstall and reinstall graphic drivers from here for your Computer: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Please don't post random actions. You cannot uninstall the AMD gpu drivers on this kind of notebook. You can just download and reinstall the one on the driver's page. But the driver doesn't have a UI. Windows is saying I have optimal driver.

Stop level 1 support me and report back to the engineers they need to improve the Firmware regarding fan curve.
