Hello all,

I own a 'Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000'  (with Geforce 4070) and am very satisfied. But since yesterday the games are play are all lagging. But they only lag in full screen mode, but not in windowed mode. I have tried alot, but nothing has solved the issue. I get no error messages. I am not aware of recent update in e.g. NVIDIA or Windows mode.

In addition to that when my laptop goes to standby mode, pushing butting doesn't activate it. I have to restart then.

Any users here that experienced this problem before I go to a repair shop?

With kind regards,

Hi @Oobro,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your situation points to two separate issues:

Issue 1: Games Lagging in Full Screen but Not in Windowed Mode

This is often caused by:

  • Display Mode Conflicts (Windows + GPU settings)
  • Variable Refresh Rate or V-Sync settings
  • A recent Windows or NVIDIA update is changing graphics settings

Fix Steps:

  1. Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
    • Right-click the game executable → Properties → Compatibility → Disable Fullscreen Optimizations.
  2. Check NVIDIA Control Panel
    • Go to Manage 3D Settings → Global Settings
      • Set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA GPU.
      • Turn V-Sync to Off (or Adaptive if tearing occurs).
  3. Update GPU Drivers
  4. Disable Game Mode
    • Settings → Gaming → Game Mode → Off.
  5. Try Borderless Windowed Mode
    • Many games run smoother in borderless mode than in exclusive full-screen.

Issue 2: Laptop Won’t Wake from Standby

This is usually linked to Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) or driver conflicts.

Fix Steps:

  1. Update BIOS & Chipset Drivers 👉 Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 | HP® Support
  2. Disable Modern Standby
    • Open Command Prompt (Admin)
    • powercfg /a

If Modern Standby is active, you can switch to Hibernate or Sleep only.

  1. Change Power Settings
    • Control Panel → Power Options → Advanced Settings → Sleep → Allow Wake Timers → Enable.
  2. Check Fast Startup
    • Disable Fast Startup in Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.

Why This Happened

  • A recent Windows update or NVIDIA driver change likely altered power and display settings.
  • HP Victus laptops with RTX GPUs sometimes have hybrid graphics conflicts after updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
