I bought it from Amazon six years ago, it isn’t performing as well as it used to. Tasks like gaming, browsing the web, doing homework, and watching videos have slowed down, and it sometimes crashes when I connect monitors. Also, it gets heated very quickly when I play high performance games even though I have ventilations beneath it. My friend has the same laptop and bought it a couple of months before I did from Amazon and still works great so I don’t think it’s an outdated issue.

Hi @Levi48,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your OMEN laptop might be struggling due to a few potential issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions to help improve its performance.
- Clean the Vents and Fans: Dust buildup can cause overheating. Make sure the vents and fans are clean and free from dust. You might need to use compressed air to blow out the dust.
- Check for Thermal Paste Issues: Over time, the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and the heatsink can degrade. Reapplying thermal paste might help with cooling.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that all your drivers, especially for the GPU, are up to date. Sometimes performance issues can be due to outdated drivers.
- Check for Malware: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure there are no malware infections affecting performance.
- Upgrade Hardware: If your laptop allows, consider upgrading components like the RAM or SSD. Adding more RAM or replacing a slow HDD with an SSD can significantly boost performance.
- Manage Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs that might be consuming resources.
- Perform a Clean Install of Windows: If software issues persist, a fresh install of Windows can help resolve performance problems by eliminating any corrupt files or settings.
- Monitor Temperature and Performance: Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check your laptop’s temperature and performance. This can help you understand if overheating is causing the crashes and slowdowns.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
