My omen gaming laptop will not start. This has happened before but the hard reset worked then. The screen has also turned black before when I've lowered the screen slightly, as if it was being shut. Now it doesn't start at all. The light next to the charger is on though. The screen is just black. I've been reading about others experiencing similar issues. It seems to be the hall sensor not functioning. What do I do?

Hi @Microwavex, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your OMEN 16-xf0000 might have a faulty hall sensor (which detects when the lid is closed) or a deeper hardware issue. Since you've already tried a hard reset before and it worked, let's go through some possible solutions:
Try Another Hard Reset
Disconnect everything – charger, peripherals, external drives.
Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds.
Reconnect the charger and try turning it on.
Check Display Output
Try connecting an external monitor via HDMI. If you get a display there, the issue may be with the laptop screen (possibly the hall sensor).
If there's no output, the problem might be deeper (motherboard, GPU, etc.).
Check for Hall Sensor Issues
The hall sensor detects whether the lid is open or closed. If it's malfunctioning, the laptop might think the lid is always closed.
Test by slightly adjusting the lid angle – does the screen flicker or turn on at a certain position?
Try using a strong magnet near the sensor area (usually around the hinges) to see if it "triggers" the screen.
Perform a Blind BIOS Recovery
If it's a firmware issue, you can try a BIOS recovery:
Turn off the laptop completely.
Hold Win + B, then press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds.
If the BIOS recovery starts, follow the on-screen instructions.
Inspect for Motherboard or GPU Issues
If none of the above steps work, it could be a deeper issue like:
Faulty motherboard or GPU
Loose display connector or damaged cable
Power delivery failure
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
