Hi, I’m having issues with the HDMI port on my Omen 15 laptop. The port stopped working suddenly, and in Device Manager, my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU shows a warning triangle with an exclamation mark.

  • I’ve tried updating the NVIDIA driver manually to the latest version (580.97).

  • I also updated Intel GPU drivers and chipset drivers from HP.

  • I’ve attempted removing and reinstalling the NVIDIA driver.

Despite all this, the yellow warning persists and HDMI still doesn’t output a signal. I’m not sure if it’s a driver conflict, Windows update issue, or a hardware problem.

Has anyone experienced this and found a fix?

@BVdpoele, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

You're doing a great job already by updating the NVIDIA and Intel drivers, as well as the chipset drivers. Since the HDMI port is directly tied to the NVIDIA GPU in most OMEN laptops, and you're seeing a warning triangle in Device Manager, this points to a deeper issue with the GPU driver or system configuration. Let's walk through a few steps to isolate and hopefully resolve the issue:

Check Device Status and Error Code

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU > Properties.
  • Under the General tab, note the Device Status and Error Code (e.g., Code 43, Code 31).
  • This will help determine if it's a driver failure or hardware fault.

Use DDU to Clean Uninstall NVIDIA Drivers

Sometimes remnants of older drivers cause conflicts. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove NVIDIA drivers:

  • Download DDU: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/
  • Boot into Safe Mode.
  • Run DDU and select Clean and restart for NVIDIA drivers.
  • After reboot, install the latest NVIDIA driver from HP (recommended) or NVIDIA directly:
    • HP OMEN 15 drivers: HP Support - OMEN 15
    • NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU: NVIDIA Driver Downloads

Check for Windows Updates and Rollbacks

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History.
  • If a recent update coincides with the issue, try rolling it back:
    • Settings > Recovery > Go back to previous version of Windows (if available).

BIOS Update

An outdated BIOS can cause hardware detection issues:

  • Visit HP Support: Official HP® Support
  • Enter your exact OMEN 15 model number.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS version.

Test HDMI Output in BIOS or Pre-Boot Environment

  • Connect your HDMI monitor and restart the laptop.
  • Tap Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
  • If the external monitor shows output here, it's likely a driver/OS issue.
  • If not, it could be a hardware fault.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Additional Notes

  • Code 43 in Device Manager often indicates a driver or hardware failure. If it persists after DDU and BIOS update, it may be a hardware issue.
  • If HDMI worked previously and stopped suddenly, consider checking for physical damage or dust in the HDMI port.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

Hi Max3Aj,

Thanks for your detailed reply. To clarify: in Device Manager the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU is indeed showing Error Code 43. I have carefully followed your steps, including using DDU in Safe Mode to completely remove NVIDIA drivers and then reinstalling the latest version afterwards. Unfortunately, after rebooting the system the warning symbol and Code 43 still remain.

Could you please advise what the next steps would be?

  • Should I proceed with a BIOS update and HP Diagnostics as you mentioned?

  • Or does the persistence of Code 43 after a clean driver installation already suggest a likely hardware fault with the GPU?

Thanks again for your help!

Best regards,
Brecht

@BVdpoele, Thanks for the update, and I appreciate your thoroughness in following the steps.

Since Error Code 43 persists even after a clean driver installation using DDU, this does suggest a deeper issue, and you're right to ask whether it's time to move toward BIOS and diagnostics or consider hardware failure.

Next Recommended Steps

1. BIOS Update

Yes, please proceed with updating the BIOS. An outdated BIOS can cause GPU initialization issues, especially after driver updates or Windows patches.

  • Visit: Official HP® Support
  • Enter your exact OMEN 15 model number (e.g., OMEN 15-en1xxx) to get the correct BIOS version.
  • Follow the instructions carefully. Ensure your laptop is plugged in and do not interrupt the update process.

2. HP Hardware Diagnostics

Run the built-in diagnostics to check for GPU or motherboard faults:

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select System Tests > Graphics Test.
  • If the test fails or shows anomalies, it’s a strong indicator of a hardware fault.

Alternatively, you can download the tool:

What Code 43 Usually Means

  • Driver-related: Often resolved by DDU, which you've already done.
  • Firmware/BIOS-related: Can be resolved by updating BIOS.
  • Hardware-related: If the above steps fail, it’s likely a GPU hardware fault, especially if HDMI output is also dead and the GPU fails diagnostics.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have a great day.
