Hello,

I am the owner of an HP OMEN 17 laptop and I am looking for official guidance regarding a BIOS Administrator password issue.

While troubleshooting a software issue, I entered the BIOS and was required to set a BIOS Administrator password in order to change a setting. After saving and rebooting, the system no longer accepts the administrator password, and I am now unable to access or modify BIOS settings.

Important details:

  • The laptop boots into Windows normally

  • Windows works without any issues

  • This is only a BIOS Administrator password lock

  • No data loss, no OS corruption

I understand that HP has an official recovery procedure for BIOS Administrator password lockouts (including the “System Disabled” unlock flow, if applicable).
I would like to know:

  1. What is the official process for resetting or removing a BIOS Administrator password on an HP OMEN 17?

  2. Can this be handled remotely, or does it require an authorized HP service center?

I am not looking for unofficial workarounds—only the correct HP-supported solution.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello @mano123456 ,

Welcome to the HP community.

A quick community search for the terms BIOS & Password finds all these posts >here<, which are mainly closed with the below explanation:

Here is HP's official policy regarding BIOS passwords:

According to the Community's Rules of Participation:

4d. No posts shall include instructions/directions intended to bypass or subvert security mechanisms such as lock screens, BitLockers, BIOS lock, passwords, fingerprint/biometry scanners, PINs, or any other safety measures.

Therefore, this topic is being locked.

Best regards
