OMEN 15-ek0770ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, i have recently got a replacement OMEN, because my first order had significant quality issues (trackpad loose, shift key sticky / gets hung up on top cover, hinges off center) and appeared used (fingerprints all over the device etc.). Anyways, on this replacement unit I have noticed, that the idling sound of the fan emmits a incredibly annoying whine, similar to that of old CRT TV's along the normal fan whooshing. Using a frequency analyser tool you can clearly see a single peak standing out at around 5760 Hz.

At first I thought, that it might be coil whine of some sorts, but after disabling the always on feature for the fans in the BIOS the sound went away. When turning the fans on again using the control center the sound immediately reappears. I have taken a quick video that you can check out here:

This cant be normal can it?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the fan is making a loud noise.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I checked the videos you have shared, and the fan noise sounds normal (Note: It is a gaming laptop). However, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp110001-110500/sp110270.exe

Intel: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp103501-104000/sp103886.exe

Nvidia: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105957.exe

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

The drivers wereup to date on the laptop. I also downgraded the drivers to see if the old ones made a difference. They did not. After talking with my local HP support, I  returned my unit and bought a new one as a replacement. The replacement DID NOT whine anymore. This definitely was hardware related.
