Hi Guys,
I knew this day would eventually come along as i have had friends with this similar problem after the dreaded windows update. I got a windows update last night which has rendered my laptop speaker useless. I know for sure the update has caused the problem as my audio jack works and at least i can plug an external speaker in whilst i fix this pain of a problem.
*** I saw the fix to make sure the speakers are chosen but all that is visable is the audio jack symbol. The speakers have disappeared.
Here are my PC details : OMEN by HP Laptop Product Number 1DF05PA#ABG Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version: 17763.316
I have seen many fixes for this all of which i am not sure if it applies to this model of HP Omen. I would really like a fix for this PC as I see some fixes ask you to run strange exe files with drivers that go to asian websites??? Is this correct.
Any help would be great. Thanks Bonecrusher 🙂

@BoneCrusher1235, the last thing that I would try is, go into Device Manager and delete the audio devices. Once this is complete reboot the system. Win 10 should find the devices and reinstall them. This has worked for me in the past.
This type of problem can drive one to the edge. I am here helping on the Forums because of a problem that I had years ago.

@BoneCrusher1235 , welcome to the forum.
The first thing I always check when an update causes my speakers to fail is, click the Speaker icon in the Tray and assure that the correct driver is being used. There are two choices in my computer and I turn on a video and click each to see if the sound works.

Hi Old Geekster,
Yes that was the first thing i checked.
I have more than basic knowlege, i can assure you the update has caused a crash in the drivers or something related to the speakers as i have sound in the audio jack as i stated before. Thanks for your time.

Thank you for the additional information, @BoneCrusher1235.
Did you try to uninstall the latest update in Windows Update/View update history/Uninstall updates, to see if that solved your problem?

@BoneCrusher1235, you are welcome! It is not something that we feel comfortable with doing, but sometimes it is the only choice we have at the moment.
Another thing that we all hate to do is a full System Recovery. It is a lot of work, but makes our computers run like new.
