HP Omen 15 thermal throttling

Hey,

I recently repasted my laptop after it was getting to 95 degrees and thermal throttling, then dropping to 90, running fine until it got back up to 95 again constantly, though was unable to get all of the heat sink off so it was a rather clumsy job. I am now getting to 99 degrees before thermal throttling, and only dips to 97 degrees - this is when attempting ANY sort of gaming. Would anyone know of a solution, or a specific tutorial on how to take this laptop apart for a thermal paste? I tried to follow others but were either unclear or a different laptop model.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

Use the following steps:

• Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

• After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
• Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

• In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.

And, also you might want to reduce the visual effects for windows to save the amount of CPU & Graphics card usage required to run your game properly. 

Here's how you do it: 

• Go to Start Menu > click on Settings. 

• Type performance > choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.  

• In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance. 

• click Apply and ok...this should do the trick.

I understand your problem. I had the same problem and actually i still have this issue for stock CPU settings. I tried cleaning and update everything but it didn't solve this issue. So I gave it to the service for maintenance but this didn't help either.

The solution is undervolting your CPU with Intel XTU (of course if you have intel cpu). You can change core voltage, turbo boost power, turbo boost short power and turbo boost power time to lower values. Lowering these values helps the temperature to drop. Before change these values you should search for what value should you start lowering the voltage. You need to find best stable value.
