Microsoft Windows 11

I have a 16" HP Omen laptop with an RTX 3060 that recently began giving me some issues when connected to an external 34" ultrawide display. I'm trying to identify if this issue is hardware or software related, but was hoping someone who has more knowledge may be able to help.

When connected to the external display via miniDP to DP cable, I'll get these random horizontal flickers that look like narrow static lines. It's very quick and never in the same spot, but it happens a few times every minute. The caveat here is that I also own an HP Omen 15" laptop, and when connected to the same external display using the same cable, it doesn't do this at all, so I've limited the issue to just the 16" laptop.

I've confirmed the following

  • Cable is connected securely to the laptop
  • GPU drivers are up to date via GeForce Experience Driver Install (I've tried older drivers too, same result)
  • Windows updates are all up to date

I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue, but not sure of how I can test a mDP connection on the laptop. I just downloaded the HP Diagnostic Tool UEFI, guess I'll try that next but again any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
