OMEN by HP 17t-cb000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have been using my OMEN 17 for 1.5-2 years now. A new issue has popped up in the last week or so. When I play World of Tanks, my connection is dropped every 40 to 120 seconds constantly. It makes the game unplayable. I believe that the same thing happens with google docs as well so I don't think it is just that game.

I have been going back and forth with support and IT at my university as well as some friends who know a bit more than me.

Things I Have tried:

- Reinstalling the game

- Running the game in safe mode to remove all mods from the equation

- Reinstalling HP Network card drivers

- Switching to my phone's hotspot rather than college wifi

- USB Tethering my phone

- Plugging into the Ethernet at college

- Removing Norton Antivirus and disabling windows firewall completely

- Adding the game to windows firewall

- Allowing WUDFHost.exe through the firewall / Norton antivirus

- Reinstalling windows from the recovery / repair menu

- Updating the BIOS and Firmware

- Running a windows driver check program

We originally thought that it was due to the error we saw in the windows logs which was Netwtw08 6062 (0) 6062 - Lso was triggered  but that does not pop up every time I disconnect only sometimes, and sometimes it happens when I don't disconnect so I think it is not related.

I read online that HP OMen 15s had a problem with their network card a while ago but didn't see anything about the 17s and this was back in like 2019

We think that the computer is switching channels often which causes a disconnection but this should not have happened with the LAN network, and when it switches it is supposed to wait until reconnect. I am not sure what to think or try at this point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only game I play really and I really want to play it again.

Hello, thank you for the response.

I ended up solving the issue this morning. It turns out that my school's wifi was blocking some ports that the game uses. We had initially ruled this out since my phone's hotspot does not block those ports but it had the same issues. The issue is resolved when I use a VPN though for some reason. This is a temporary fix for the problem until I get home to my own network.

Think about why they try to prevent multiplayer in school wifi....
