HP Omen 17 ano14TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HI Guys,

I am having an issue with my gaming laptop, when I game for extended periods of time, and by that I mean 25 mins, the screen will suddenly go black and the only way to get anything working is to reboot by holding down the power button. I litterally just goes black, no sound is heard and no input is registered.

This happened most recently when I was playing Doom 2016. My laptop does tend to get hot in general and that is worrying me. As I type, my idle temperature are 64 Degree Celcius accoring to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and my fans do ramp up often.

Please can someone help me out, I bought this laptop to mostly play games and I would hate to have to limit my gameplay session to 20 mins, the reviews said that it was good laptop.

Thanks so much.

@CodeJBDA,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Do you facing this issue only when you play games?

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Hi, so I downloaded the graphics file and it ended up being an outdated nvidia driver so that end up being useless.

I haven't yet tried the BIOS file as you suggested, I will do so.

I am wondering if this could be caused by my laptop overheating. When I check my tempareatures using programs, my idle temps are unusually high. Typing this message now has my temps seen in the pic below.

This results in my fans spinning up very often. During gaming of more recent games, like doom and injustice 2, my laptop can go right up to 100 degrees celcius. I am not sure why, because I read that the HP Omen is supposed to have very decent cooling and that it should be hovering around the 80 degree celcius range.

PLease assist...

Thanks

Hi,

So this is still a problem and I would really like some advice on how to sort it out.

When I play games normally, they play just fine for 15 or so minutes, then the screen goes black and I am forced to restart the laptop by holding the on button.

The only way I can play for extended periods of time is to use the Nvidia Geforce Experience - Whisper Mode. This locks the Frame rate to 40 fps. I have tried increasing the frame rate cap of whisper mode to 60 FPS but this does not change anything.

I have purchased a cooling pad in the hope that this could help, but it didn't help.

Please help with this!
