Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to latest BIOS from HP.COM.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.

If issue still persist then test the touchpad using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
  3. Select Component Tests > touchpad.
  4. Click Run Once.

Once the test completes, results are displayed on the screen.

If the drive passes all tests, continue to restore a computer back to the factory default using Reset PC, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I am having the same issue.  Purchased from Amazon beginning of January.  I thought it was a fluke when it first happened.  Obviously it's not.  It came with Windows 11.  I was wondering if it was a Windows 11 glitch.  But my guess is no.  And you can't assume it's not a hardware problem just because lots of people are experiencing the same problem.  It could be a defect in the design, it could be they substituted with an inferior part because that is what happens when you have no parts.  I am just dreading this because i don't want to deal with an HP RMA.  I can say from experience it's very unpleasant.  And Yes to all the Drivers, BIOS, and so on, all updated.

Can you share with us any information about the problem?  Is it something HP is aware of vis a vis the OMEN Laptop?  Is it a problem with this current generation (my model OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck0000 2Y4A9AV)?  Is it hardware and should i start my RMA now?  I took a chance on buying another HP after i had swore off HP for years due to bad customer support.  I own a local IT Support company so this was first hand experience.  But for the money the OMEN ticked every box on what i was looking for.  And due to supply chain problems there wasn't a large pool to choose from nor did i have the time to wait.  Other than the touchpad it has met my expectations.  I would hope an 1800 dollar laptop would.  So giving us, the consumer, more information and not boiler plate responses would be extremely helpful.

Note I haven't done a clean install yet, i have only been using for 40 days so not a lot of time to crap up Windows so i would think that wouldn't be necessary.

And has been mentioned disabling the Touchpad using the FN+F11 fixes the problem for a bit but not as long as restarting/shutting down the computer

Since I have replaced my touchpad from hp service engineer again I am facing the same issue there is no problem with the hardware

It's not a Heat issue, that much i am sure of (i have seen that being bandied about on other posts)

It seems to be random so far but I trying to identify a common characteristic when it begins to flake out.  It starts and builds up slowly until it's almost unusable then i hit the FN+F11 and it goes back to working.  The cursor won't follow the movements of your finger and neither the left or right "button" on bottom of touchpad work but it will respond to taps in the center of the touchpad to select an object with one finger or two fingers to right click.

i am wondering if there is a connection to the Elan Service and ETD Control Center that you will see running in Task Manager or at least i see it running on mine.  I am trying to figure out what the purpose of either is because you can stop the service and end task on the Control Center and the Touchpad works just the same.

Has this issue been escalated up the chain to engineers or upper-level tech support? It is obviously not a hardware issue (someone posted that they replaced the touchpad and still have the issue) and if the problem is "resolved" by turning the touchpad off and back on again, then it is definitely software-related. I'm lucky that I don't use my touchpad all that often but after spending $2500 on a top-of-the-line laptop, you don't expect to have a bug like this one that's simply annoying.

Hopefully, there's a fix soon for this issue...

Same issue here. I purchased Laptop about 5 days ago. The last 2 days the touchpad doesn't respond and or becomes erratic like the mouse pointer stutters and the left/right click doesn't work. I have to reboot to get working again which seems to fix for a short period of time and then happens again. I have newest drivers and bios installed and did not fix problem.

I would try stopping the Elan Service, set it to manual.  In task manager end task on the Elan Control Center, the executable won't run without the service starting it.  I have had it off for 3 days and it hasn't gone erratic on me.

Also the FN-F11 trick will work instead of having to restart but i would try the Elan Service (assuming you have it)

It's still too early to say if that is part of the problem or the problem, i need to use the laptop longer then turn it back on again and see if problem comes back

ETD or elan services
