Solved!

HP Omen 17-an018na is 120hz, can I connect a 144hz monitor?

17-an018na HP Omen Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Dear all

I have the above laptop, I have seen that the screen is 120hz, can I connect an extension monitor at 144hz and actually have my games run on that extension monitor at 144hz?

The monitors I am looking at buying:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-OPTIX-MAG241C/dp/B07DWFRW73/ref=sr_1_72?crid=316CRD6QR7UWX&keywords=144...

Or

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-C24RG50-24inch-Curved-Monitor/dp/B07PFJH2YX/ref=sr_1_59?crid=316CRD...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

@mjh2222

It is up to the video out port(s), not internal notebook screen. Your machine has

  • 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge);
  • 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge);
  • 1 Mini DisplayPort™;
  • 1 HDMI;
  • 1 RJ-45;
  • 1 headphone/microphone combo;
  • 1 microphone-in

The HDMI port is HDMI 2.0 which supporting: up to 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz

Therefore both monitors with ONLY 1080p should work; higher resolution may not work.

Regards.
