OMEN by HP Laptop 17-an0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop battery has conked out; I can't use the computer unless it is plugged in. Thus, it is time to replace the battery. However, I am having issues with respect to obtaining a replacement.

I went to the parts surfer to attempt to locate a replacement battery. ( https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx ) The spare number is 922977-855 and the item is called " ASSY-BATT 8C 86Whr 3.0Ah LI FM08086-CL". I was able to locate the item within the list, but unlike the other parts in the list for my make and model of laptop, it has "N/A" instead of a check box which I assume means the part is not in stock with HP.

I have identified a potential replacement, but it is not sold by HP, and it doesn't seem to be an HP brand part. The part can be found through batterybuy ( https://www.batterybuy.us/batteries-hp/hp-922977-855-laptop-battery.htm ). I suppose my question is, is it possible for HP to obtain the battery and for me to buy it, and if not, is the battery sold by batterybuy okay to replace my battery with?

Thanks,

iamtheapplenow

@iamtheapplenow , welcome to the forum.

As you stated, HP doesn't offer the battery for sale.  They furnish them originally, but don't sell replacements.  Here is the same battery as in your link at Amazon:  https://www.amazon.com/HWW-Compatible-HSTNN-LB8B-922753-421-922977-855/dp/B07KN17K3S

I would trust Amazon over an unknown seller even if the price is considerably more.  This decision is up to you, however.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply! I actually did trust batterybuy if I was going to get that battery, but I discovered that one of HP's trusted outside sellers had the genuine HP counterpart in stock. (The seller being CPW, for reference.) This would have been a good contingency plan, though, so I will mark your answer as solution.
