Omen 17" Laptop cb1055cl
Microsoft Windows 11

Laptop is about 6 months old and has always had this issue, Overheats and shuts down randomly. I don't game with it. It's used as a word processor, YouTube viewer and browser. I also watch movies on it.

The fans are cleaned and nothing has been spilled on it. HP service is not around to talk to.

Any ideas? Thanks

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand that your HP notebook is overheating and shutting down randomly. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.

  • In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent the noisy operation from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.

If you still need additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team if you would like to continue troubleshooting.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have tried all of the recommended ideas to no joy. The unit overheats and shuts down every 5-6 days. I blow it out to clean the fans each time..

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
The last thing I can suggest trying to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I've tried all day to reset the PC. It overheats after about an hour and shuts down. Repeatedly. It shuts down before I can install W10. I can't even backup the drive because it shuts down. What are the steps I need to take to warranty this item?

Thanks.

This seems like a hardware issue with the computer.
