OMEN by HP - 17-an101na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I bought this computer it has a OEM copy of Microsoft Windows 10 Home edition which had a considerable amount of bloatware on the OS, which included a substantial amount of HP branded software which wasn't required for the PC to function.

I spoke with Microsoft in relation to having a product key for Windows 10 Professional Edition (Retail). As I was having trouble installing this, they stated the software was OEM and it was refusing for it to be installed, however they made a few registy changes and eventually was able to install Microsoft Windows 10 Professional. During this process it completely wiped the recovery partition pre-installed on the device.

If this kind of software can be installed without the help of other HP software if anyone could let me know that would be fantastic? I'm assumming the missing DDL's is other software it is looking for that the application needs to run correctly.

The device is working fine and the laptop is considerably faster, however I tried to install Omen Command Centre and it's saying missing DDL's, which means i'm unable to get the RGB keyboard to light up. When I attempt to install the software through Windows Store it fails and re-tries and re-tries but fails and fails and fails.

I have spoken with HP support and they are sending me a recovery USB stick which will set the device up to OEM software, I did originally request this to be downloaded due to having Fibre Optics (the ISO) however the live chat indicated as i'm from the United Kingdom it wasn't possible, but he did imply that he could of if I was from the United States of America. Obviously as i'm sure you are aware a ISO has to be available to make a USB device bootable so i'm aware there is a ISO file somewhere on HP's servers, could this be uploaded so it can be downloaded?

Hello @Johnson153

Unfortunately the information in the one year old post isnt relative anymore as things have changed.

There are may complaints that the Omen Command Center will not work on the Pro version of Windows 10. I have not found any information otherwise that it will work or not.

Where was your Omen laptop purchased from? If you live in the UK and the laptop was purchased in the UK, then HP should be able to sell you a USB media recovery drive for that UK model.

If it was purchased via the USA, then they might not be able to sell you the recovery.

With that said: How did you install the Omen Command Center? Did you use the Windows Store link?

This may or may not help...

Go to Windows updates and manually update Windows... All Settings>Update & Security>Check for updates and force it to look for updates until there are none.

Install these downloads...

OMEN Command Center SDK Package sp93236.exe

HP System Event Utility sp91504.exe

Open the HP Support Assistant and make it check for updates/drivers and install any that it finds.

You may have to install it if you used the Microsoft ISO for Windows installation... sp86979.exe

Go to the Search bar and type Omen Command Center (OCC) and uninstall it. Then install it from this link... Get OMEN Command Center - Microsoft Store  NOTE: If you have Windows Apps location set to another partition other than C: drive, it wont work.

Go to the Search bar again and type Services and open it. Make sure the HP Omen HSA is enabled. Should be set to Running Automatic. If not, right click on it and choose Properties and change it.

Next...

Go to Device Manager... Type Device Manager in Search and hit the Enter key.

Scroll to Software Components and expand the arrow.

Right-click HP Software and Services, and then click Properties.

Navigate to the Driver tab and click Update Driver.

Do the same for Omen Software and Services.

Restart the OCC and see if it works.

IF not, there is nothing more I would know to do. You will most likely need to install the HP Home version of Windows 10 via the recovery media. HP does not have it available as a download. Im sorry.

Thank you for your long message.

I've looked into what you have said and still haven't been able to get the Omen Command Centre functioning correctly.

I've had a email from DHL informing me that the recovery media is due for delivery today, so it looks like i'm going to have to stick with the OEM software which is on the device. Shame HP don't design their software to be more friendly with non-branded software.
