Hi,
Here is my storage spec:
- Storage & Memory
- Solid-State Drive Capacity512 GB
512 GB is simply not sufficient for gaming laptop.
I would like to add at least 1TB extra storage.
- What is the hard drive configurations for this laptop?
- Can I use SSHD like this one (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/seagate-seagate-super-speed-1tb-2-5-sata-desktop-hybrid-drive-st... for my laptop?
- Before installing a new hard drive, do I have to do any software configuration or simply just open up my laptop and put the new hard drive in?
- Do you have installation and replacement manual for this laptop?

You're most welcome. 🙂
Yes, you may add an HDD to your laptop. This laptop supports upto 2TB HDD. The compatible sizes and part numbers are explained in page no. 41 of the user guide.
Also, an SSD differs from a traditional hard drive in that it does not have platters, actuators, or other moving parts (such as the read/write heads). Because an SSD has no moving parts, it is faster to read and write, quieter, and less susceptible to physical shock.
Hope this information helps. Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an OMEN by HP - 17-w151nr and would like to upgrade from 512 GB Solid state drive to 1TB SSD.
I did some research nd located the hardware specifications for your laptop. It shows that the laptop has been tested with the below SSDs so far. So the 1TB SSD may or may not work as we haven't tested it yet:
- 128 GB 2280 M2 SATA-3 (Part# 827560-026)
- 256 GB 2280 M2 PCIe 3x4SS NVMe (Part# 847109-002)
- 512 GB 2280 M2 PCIe 3x4SS NVMe (Part# 847110-004)
You do not have to make any changes to the laptop if you plan to replace the SSD ever. The SSD replacement instructions can be found with images at page no. 43 of the user guide.
Hope this information is useful. Please keep me posted for any questions. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you for very much your response, Kazi.
If HP haven't tested it, then it might be too risky for me to install it.
- Can I add extra storage by using HDD instead? if yes, what is the hardware specification for the HDD?
- Do you have any suggestions on which hard drive brand I should choose from?
Many Thanks
Adam

- Hard drive connector and cable- part# 862964-001
- Hard drive brackets with rubber - part# 911227-001
Keep me posted for any questions. Thanks again!
