There is a crack in the right corner, I noticed it only a month or two ago. Laptop is also out of warranty. I turned the laptop to look at the bottom today and I saw that 2 screws were missing , one was in the indicated area where the cracking has occurred.
This would be (when looking at the bottom) the left upper screw, and then the middle screw is missing( I managed to notice it and picked up the screw and kept it.). In the corner that the crack is in, whenever it is shut the top of the case comes up a bit. This laptop was also purchased not from hp but from best buy and is the 17 inch version of this laptop.
I have seen similar posts with this issue including one from recent in 2019.
Here is a picture.

An update. I was able to take the screw from the middle that fell out (doesn't really need it, from what I've seen). I used that and put it in the screw slot that was missing the screw and was moving the hinge. I was able to screw it in until it was tight. I shall see for how long this lasts and if it comes out I will post again.
With the donor screw, the top of the chassis has stopped moving when closing the laptop. May be temporary. Let me clarify that both screws came out on their own. I did a little bit of testing shutting the lid of the laptop, the right side seems to still move a little bit backward than usual (right side corner near where you plug in the power supply), when shutting the lid.

Another Update, when moving the lid of the laptop, that corner of the top portion of the laptop (bottom is undamaged, I looked), it does move when shutting the laptop lid. Also the cracked part does move a bit when doing this.
